Boats To Distribute Exams In Flooded Budalangi

The Kenyan government has implemented measures to distribute national examination papers in flood-prone areas of Budalangi in Busia County.

MSMEs Principal Secretary Susan Mang'eni announced the boat team to ferry exams in areas like Budalang'i and Akiramasi, which are prone to flooding. The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) exams were delivered by boats to schools in areas like Bunyala South Ward and Sigulu Islands on Lake Victoria.

The government has set up a boat team to ferry exams, warning centre managers against cheating and urging them to follow the government's recommendations. The exams are used to validate candidates' past achievements in social, economic, and political spheres. Busia County Commissioner Kipchumba Ruto also stated that the government has put elaborate measures in place to ensure exam papers reach schools despite the terrain.

The County Director of Education, Mr. James Ekaliyo, reported that Busia has 31,500 candidates sitting for KCPE exams and 30,780 candidates for KPSEA exams in 507 centres across the county. The PS toured Kakurikit Primary School, which was recently ravaged by heavy winds, and urged school heads or centre managers to allow KPSEA candidates who are not appearing in the nominal roll or failed to register to sit for the exams.

President Ruto is expected to visit Malaba before the end of this year to address the traffic snarl-up along Malaba-Bungoma, which hampers trade in the border town.
